There is no photograph file to prepare

Every SSC 2026 cycle captures the photograph inside the application module: the candidate “is not required to have a pre-existing photograph of himself/herself”, and stands before the camera when the module prompts. Where the camera is unavailable, the notice offers a QR code that opens a mobile capture app.

Taking a picture of an existing photograph is rejected outright: “In no case should the candidate capture the photographs of his/her pre-existing photograph.” That is why this page prepares the signature only — and why a resized photograph is not a useful thing to bring to this cycle.

The notice gives centimetres, not pixels

SSC CHSL 2026’s notice contains no pixel dimension and no DPI figure for the signature — the words “pixel” and “dpi” do not appear in it at all in this context. It states a physical size and a byte range, and nothing else.

So that the file can be prepared at all, this preset uses 200 DPI — the scanning resolution Indian application portals most often ask for — and prepares 472 × 157 pixels, which is exactly 6.0 × 2.0 cm at 200 DPI, writing 200 DPI metadata into the file. The assumption is ours, not the Commission’s, and it is disclosed here because you should be able to check it.

The same notice states two different widths

The body of the notice says the signature should be about 6.0 cm wide; the annexure of the same document says about 4.0 cm. Both figures are printed by the Commission, in the same notice, for the same upload. Nothing in the document reconciles them.

This preset follows the wider reading used in the body of the notice. The rejection rule penalises signatures that are blurred or miniature, so the larger of the two is the safer target — a signature prepared to 6.0 cm still satisfies a 4.0 cm rule far better than the reverse. If your portal rejects it, the portal wins.

What gets an application rejected

The notice rejects summarily any application “with inappropriate photographs or blurred/miniature signatures” that do not meet the requirements. Content is the usual cause once the file itself is right: a signature drawn in the wrong ink, or a scan of a whole sheet rather than the signature.

Candidates who apply through Aadhaar Based Authentication are exempt: their applications are not rejected on these photograph-and-signature grounds at all. And the closing time is exact — applications close at 23:00 IST on 2026-10-07, and SSC has stated for other 2026 cycles that no extension is granted under any circumstances.
