SSC signature resize and photo rule
Resize your SSC signature
Nothing is uploadedWhat the source says: Candidates are required to upload the scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB). Image dimension of the signature should be about 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height).
What it leaves open: The notices give centimetres, not pixels, and no DPI, so 472 × 157 px is 6.0 × 2.0 cm at an assumed 200 DPI. The CGL, CHSL, CPO, Selection Post and Hindi Translator notices also print 4.0 × 2.0 cm in one other passage; there is a preset for that below.
CGL 2026 notice (opens in a new tab) paragraph 9.6, page 18, read 25 Oct 2026 · CHSL 2026 notice (opens in a new tab) paragraph 9.6, page 12, read 25 Oct 2026
The SSC notices of 2026 ask for one image file: your signature, scanned as a JPEG of 10 to 20 KB and about 6.0 cm wide by 2.0 cm high. There is no photo file to resize, because the form takes your photo live. Pick your notice above, add a scan or phone photo of your signature, and download the JPG.
SSC signature and photo rules, notice by notice
What each SSC notice says about the images, read in the Commission's own PDFs on ssc.gov.in. No MTS 2026 notice was on the notice board on 25 October 2026, so the MTS row is the 2025 notice.

| Every notice above | Photograph | No photo file. The application captures a live photo of you while you fill in the form, through a webcam or SSC's Android app | CGL 2026 notice (opens in a new tab) paragraph 9.4, page 18; Annexure-IV, page 71, read 25 October 2026 |
No notice gives the signature in pixels. The presets turn the centimetres into pixels at 200 DPI (472 × 157 px for 6.0 × 2.0 cm), or at the 300 DPI the GD Constable notice states (709 × 236 px).
How to resize your signature for an SSC form.
Sign inside a box. The CPO and GD Constable notices advise cutting out a box and signing so the signature fills at least 80% of it. A 6.0 × 2.0 cm box drawn on white paper does the job.
Scan it or take a phone photo, then crop away the blank paper around the strokes. A signature that is small inside a large photo turns into the miniature signature the notices reject.
Choose your notice in the resizer. The CGL, CHSL, CPO, MTS, JE, Stenographer and Selection Post preset is 472 × 157 px; GD Constable is 709 × 236 px at 300 DPI. Each preset keeps the file between 10 and 20 KB.
Keep “Fit all, add white space” so no stroke is cut, then make the JPG and check the size the result shows.
The photo is done in the form. Sit against a plain background without a cap, mask or spectacles, face the camera and let it take the picture. If your computer has no camera, the form’s QR code opens SSC’s Android app to take it on your phone.
6.0 cm or 4.0 cm: the width SSC prints twice
Five notices give the signature two widths. The CGL 2026 notice says about 6.0 × 2.0 cm in paragraphs 9.6 and 23 (pages 18 and 52) and about 4.0 × 2.0 cm in Annexure-IV (page 71). CHSL 2026 does the same on pages 12, 35 and 53, CPO 2026 in paragraph 8.6 and paragraph 23(k), and the Selection Post XIV and Hindi Translator notices in their form instructions. No corrigendum settles it. The GD Constable, JE, Stenographer and MTS notices say 6.0 cm every time.
The height, 2.0 cm, and the file size, 10 to 20 KB, are the same in every passage. Start with the 6.0 cm preset. If the upload screen itself shows 4.0 cm, choose the 4.0 cm preset (315 × 157 px at 200 DPI).
What the resizer made in our test
We ran this resizer in Google Chrome 155.0.8059.41 on 14 October 2026, on generated pen strokes on white paper, not a real signature.

Why SSC rejects a photo or signature
Taken from the notices' own wording.
A blurred or miniature signature. The CGL notice rejects “blurred/miniature signature” (paragraph 14.11), and the CHSL notice rejects these “summarily” (paragraph 9.6).
A photo of a photo. “In no case should the candidate capture the photographs of his/her pre-existing photograph”, and such forms are rejected (CHSL paragraph 9.5).
A cap, mask or spectacles. Not allowed in the live photo (CHSL paragraph 9.4). The GD Constable notice adds no earphones or other devices.
A poor live photo. The CPO annexure lists a photo without a plain background, a cap, no shirt, a photo that is not bright enough and a blurred photo; the CGL notice adds side-facing photos.
Questions
What is the SSC signature size?
A scanned signature in JPEG format of 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high. That is the rule in the CGL, CHSL, CPO, GD Constable, JE, Stenographer and Selection Post notices of 2026 and the MTS 2025 notice. None of them gives a pixel size; 6.0 × 2.0 cm at 200 DPI is 472 × 157 px.
Do I need to upload a photo for an SSC form?
No photo file. The application captures a live photo of you while you fill it in, through a webcam or SSC's Android app, which you open through a QR code in the form. The notices reject a form where the candidate photographs an existing photograph, and they ask for no cap, mask or spectacles in the live photo.
Is the SSC signature 6.0 cm or 4.0 cm wide?
Both appear. The CGL, CHSL, CPO, Selection Post and Hindi Translator notices say about 6.0 × 2.0 cm in the main text and about 4.0 × 2.0 cm in one annexure or instruction, and no corrigendum says which wins. The GD Constable, JE, Stenographer and MTS notices say 6.0 cm throughout. The file size, 10 to 20 KB, is the same everywhere, so start with 6.0 × 2.0 cm and use the 4.0 cm preset only if your upload screen shows 4.0 cm.
What is the SSC signature size in pixels?
SSC states centimetres and, except for GD Constable, no DPI, so there is no official pixel size. At 200 DPI, 6.0 × 2.0 cm is 472 × 157 px and 4.0 × 2.0 cm is 315 × 157 px. The GD Constable 2026 notice says 300 DPI, which makes 6.0 × 2.0 cm 709 × 236 px. 140 × 60 px, which some sites give for SSC, is the IBPS signature size; SSC does not print it.
My SSC signature comes out under 10 KB. What do I do?
Nothing extra: with a preset chosen, the resizer keeps the file between 10 and 20 KB, and if the JPG of a plain signature is smaller than 10 KB it adds padding bytes after the image data to reach the minimum, without changing a pixel. The result shows the exact byte count.
Why do SSC forms reject signatures?
The notices name blurred and miniature signatures. The CPO and GD Constable annexures say the main reason is a miniature signature, and advise cutting out a box and signing so the signature fills at least 80% of it. Paragraph 9.3 of the CHSL 2026 notice adds that applicants who opt for Aadhaar authentication will not be rejected on the ground that the photo or signature misses the standard; prepare the signature to the rule either way.
Is my signature uploaded to FormAssets?
No. The image is resized inside your browser and the JPG downloads to your device. There is no account and no copy on a server.
Before you upload: what the resizer cannot check
FormAssets makes a JPG of the size and file size you choose and shows the result. Open it before you upload it: the resizer cannot tell whether a signature is legible or yours, and it has no part in the live photo, which the SSC form takes itself.
Rules change between cycles. Before you apply, open your own notice on ssc.gov.in (opens in a new tab); each row above shows the date we read it.
