Compress PDF to 300 KB
Choose a PDF and compress it to under 300,000 bytes. NEET (UG) 2026, JEE (Main) 2026 and UPSC all ask for certificates as PDFs of 50 to 300 KB, and this tool keeps the file under the top of that range. It cannot raise a small file to the 50 KB bottom, and it tells you when your file is already small. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
Make a PDF under 300 KB
Nothing is uploadedStays under 300,000 bytes, below the limit whether the portal counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. Up to 20 pages.
Leave it empty to keep every page. To send only some, write them like 1-2 or 1, 3. The size limit then applies to the pages you keep.
What 300 KB means in these notices.
The top of a range, not a target. NEET, JEE and UPSC write the rule as a range, 50 to 300 KB. The tool keeps the file under 300,000 bytes and spends most of that allowance on sharpness: every file it made at this limit in our runs landed between 287.7 KB and 297.0 KB, far above the 50 KB floor.
What 300 KB buys per page. One photographed page kept 181 DPI. Two scans fit at 114, three at 96 and five mixed pages at 86. UPSC's own four-page PDF, a real document, came out at 88 DPI. Ten pages reached the limit only at the 60 DPI floor and JPG quality 47, which is blocky.
A file can be too small as well as too large. A one-page typed PDF was 14 KB in our test. The tool sees that it is under 300 KB and offers it back unchanged, which is right for a maximum-only rule and wrong for a range that starts at 50 KB. If your file is under 50 KB, a notice with that range may refuse it, and this tool cannot make a PDF larger.
Official notices that set 300 KB for a PDF
All three files were fetched again on 29 Sep 2026 and are byte-for-byte the copies read on 25 Sep 2026. In each of them 300 KB is the top of the range.
| Notice and file | Official rule and source |
|---|---|
| NEET (UG) 2026Category certificate, Class X certificate or mark sheet, disability (PwD) certificate and others | PDF, 50 KB to 300 KBNational Testing Agency (opens in a new tab) Information Bulletin, page 16, items d(iv) to d(vii) and d(ix), checked 29 Sept 2026 |
| JEE (Main) 2026Class 10 certificate or mark sheet; disability certificate | PDF, 50 KB to 300 KBNational Testing Agency (opens in a new tab) Information Bulletin, page 4, checked 29 Sept 2026 |
| UPSC online applicationCaste, disability, matriculation, degree and other documents | PDF, 50 KB to 300 KB, each with a set file nameUPSC (opens in a new tab) document instructions, page 1 table, checked 29 Sept 2026 |
Enter 300 in the box above for any of these. The tool sets a maximum only: after downloading, check that the file is above 50 KB. UPSC's table also names each file, for example caste_certificate, so rename the download to the name in the row for your document before you upload it.
What fits in 300 KB
Six files at a 300 KB limit. Every file that needed compressing fit except a real eleven-page document on A3 paper. All are computer-generated except the two real PDFs named in the table.
| File | Before | At 300 KB |
|---|---|---|
| One typed page from a text editor | 14 KB1 page | Already under 300 KBReturned unchanged |
| A full page holding one photograph | 463 KB1 page | 288.6 KB181 DPI, JPG quality 68 |
| Three phone-scanned sheets | 912 KB3 pages | 292.8 KB96 DPI, JPG quality 64 |
| Ten sheets scanned at low resolution | 1,217 KB10 pages | 291.1 KB60 DPI, JPG quality 47 |
| UPSC's photo-and-signature instructions, seven pages, a real PDFupsconline.nic.in, read 2026-09-29 (opens in a new tab) | 494 KB7 pages | 296.3 KB66 DPI, JPG quality 66 |
| SBI's Junior Associates advertisement, eleven A3 pages, a real PDFsbi.bank.in, archived copy read 2026-09-25 (opens in a new tab) | 1,055 KB11 pages | Does not fitSmallest the tool could make: 1144 KB |
KB here is 1,000 bytes; a refusal quotes the tool's message, which counts 1,024. Chrome, 29 Sept 2026.
If your PDF will not go below 300 KB, or is below 50 KB.
Ten pages at 300 KB is too many. The ten-page test file fitted only at the resolution floor, 60 DPI, with JPG quality 47. The NEET and UPSC lists give each certificate its own item, so send one document per file, not ten pages in one.
A real document can be larger as an image. SBI's eleven-page advertisement, 1,055 KB, was refused at 300 KB: the smallest file the tool could make was 1144 KB, larger than the original, because typed text is far more compact than a picture of it. When the tool says this, the answer is fewer pages, not a smaller setting.
Under 50 KB is also a problem. A typed page exported from a program can be tiny: 14 KB in our test. A one-page A4 scan at 150 DPI in our test was 239 KB, inside the range, while a typed export can fall below it. Whether a portal actually rejects the small file is the portal's decision, so try the upload well before the deadline.
Use the right page for the photograph and signature. The same NEET and JEE bulletins ask for JPG files of different sizes for the photograph and signature. Use the 200 KB image page and the 100 KB image page for those, and this page for the PDFs.
What NTA and UPSC say about PDF uploads.
One range for every certificate. The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin gives 50 to 300 KB for the category, Class X and disability certificates alike. The JEE (Main) 2026 bulletin repeats it. UPSC's table lists the same 50 to 300 KB for each PDF document and gives every file a set name, so the limit is per file, not per application.
A guess about the reason. The same range across two agencies and many document types suggests a portal-wide setting rather than a judgement about each certificate. That is our inference; none of the documents explains its numbers.

Questions
How do I compress a PDF to 300 KB?
Choose the PDF, leave the limit at 300 KB and select Compress. Each page is redrawn and a new PDF under 300,000 bytes is written, with most of the allowance spent on resolution. A file already under 300 KB is offered back unchanged.
What PDF size does NEET ask for?
The NEET (UG) 2026 information bulletin asks for the category certificate, Class X certificate or mark sheet and disability certificate as PDFs of 50 KB to 300 KB, on page 16. The source is linked in the table above and was read on 29 Sep 2026. Your own cycle's bulletin is the one to follow.
Is 300 KB enough for a scanned certificate?
Yes for one to five pages in our runs: a single photographed page kept 181 DPI and five mixed pages 86 DPI. Ten pages fitted only at the lowest settings, so send one certificate per file.
My compressed PDF is under 50 KB. Is that a problem?
For notices that give 50 to 300 KB, it can be: the range has a minimum. This tool only keeps files under a maximum and cannot make one larger. A scan of the paper original, rather than a text export, is the usual way to reach a larger file.
Why is my file close to 300 KB and not smaller?
Because the tool spends the allowance on sharpness: it picks the highest resolution that fits under the limit. Files at this limit came out between 287.7 KB and 297.0 KB in our runs. Enter a smaller number in the box if you want a smaller file.
Do UPSC uploads need a particular file name?
UPSC's document instructions table gives a file name for each document, such as caste_certificate or name_change, next to the 50 to 300 KB range. The tool names its download after your file, so rename it to the name in the table before you upload.
Does my certificate get uploaded when I compress it?
No. The PDF stays in your browser from the moment you choose it to the moment you save the result.
Follow your own bulletin.
These three files are the 2026 cycles we could read; a later cycle may change the range. The tool keeps the file under 300,000 bytes and cannot tell whether a certificate is the right one or a scan is legible to the person who checks it.
