Compress image to 10 KB
Choose a picture and save it as a JPG under 10 KB. Pixels and quality are picked for you, or you can set exact pixels. Check your form first: every official notice we read that names 10 KB, from IBPS and SSC signatures (10 to 20 KB) to NEET and JEE photographs (10 to 200 KB), uses it as the minimum. A file kept under 10 KB is too small for those forms, so for a 10 to 20 KB rule set the maximum to 20 and the minimum to 10.
Make a JPG under 10 KB
Nothing is uploadedWhat 10 KB leaves of a picture.
A signature fits with room to spare. A phone-photographed signature came down to 658 × 329 px under 10 KB and an uncropped flatbed scan to 974 × 325 px, both larger than the 472 × 157 px SSC signature size listed below. The landscape photograph fell to 541 × 406 px.
A page of writing is unreadable. The handwritten A4 page shrank to 164 × 232 px, and at that size the lines of writing cannot be read. The tool shows the pixels it chose, so you can see this before you download.
Plain paper scans best. The flatbed scan kept more pixels than the phone photo, and a higher JPG quality (86 against 76). Clean white paper costs almost nothing to store; a phone photo's shadows and grain have to be stored too. Scan the signature on plain white paper if you can.
Official notices that use 10 KB for an image
Each of these notices uses 10 KB as the bottom of its range, never the top. Every row links to the authority's own file, with the page and the date we read it. The IBPS, RCF, India Exim Bank, TNPSC and SSC rules are listed below the table under each application's own checked date.
| Notice and file | Official rule and source |
|---|---|
| NEET (UG) 2026Photograph 10 to 200 KB; signature 10 to 100 KB | JPG or JPEG, from 10 KBNational Testing Agency (opens in a new tab) Information Bulletin, page 16, items d(i) and d(ii), checked 29 Sept 2026 |
| JEE (Main) 2026Photograph 10 to 200 KB; signature 10 to 100 KB | JPG or JPEG, from 10 KBNational Testing Agency (opens in a new tab) Information Bulletin, page 4, checked 29 Sept 2026 |
| CTET December 2024 information bulletinPhotograph 10 to 100 KB (the signature is 3 to 30 KB) | JPG or JPEG, from 10 KBCBSE (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) (opens in a new tab) bulletin, page 3, item (c) on uploading scanned images, checked 29 Sept 2026 |
No notice we read sets 10 KB as a ceiling for an image either. For the signature ranges above use the 20 KB page; for the NEET, JEE or CTET photograph use a larger size, because a file under 10,000 bytes is below their minimum. If your upload screen does say under 10 KB, keep the maximum at 10 in the tool above.

What fits in 10 KB
Four made-up samples (no real person or signature), each squeezed into 10 KB while keeping proportions.

If your image looks wrong at 10 KB.
Check whether 10 KB is your minimum. If your form says 10 to 20 KB, set the maximum to 20 and the minimum to 10 in the tool above, or open the 20 KB page, where the maximum is already 20. A file kept under 10,000 bytes is always below a 10 KB minimum.
Crop the paper around a signature. Crop a signature so it nearly fills the picture before you run it. The uncropped flatbed scan came out at 974 × 325 px, most of it paper. The signature resizer explains how to keep every stroke inside the frame.
Set exact pixels when your form lists them. Choose Exact pixels and enter the width and height. If they are too many for 10 KB, the tool says so and asks for smaller dimensions or a larger limit rather than returning a file over the limit. The photo resizer also names the smallest size those pixels can reach and offers pixels that fit.
A photo form usually allows more. If the form wants a passport-style photograph, 10 KB is unlikely to be the maximum: the notices we read start at 10 KB and allow up to 100 or 200 KB. Use the 200 KB page or the photo resizer.
Why 10 KB turns up so often.
As the minimum size. Every notice in the table above, and each of the seven signature rules listed under it, starts its range at 10 KB: 10 to 20 KB for the signatures, 10 to 100 or 10 to 200 KB for the NEET, JEE and CTET files. A file under 10,000 bytes is too small for all of them.
Why forms set a minimum. A 10 KB minimum looks like a way of refusing a blank or unreadably tiny image. That is our inference; none of these notices gives a reason.

Questions
How do I compress an image to 10 KB?
After adding the image, select Make JPG under 10 KB. The tool works down from your picture until 10,000 bytes is met, then shows the pixels and quality it settled on before you save.
Is 10 KB a minimum or a maximum on Indian forms?
In every notice we read that names it, a minimum: IBPS-style, RCF, India Exim Bank, TNPSC and SSC signatures at 10 to 20 KB, NEET (UG) 2026 and JEE (Main) 2026 photographs at 10 to 200 KB, and CTET's photograph at 10 to 100 KB. We did not find one with 10 KB as a maximum.
Can a signature be reduced to 10 KB?
Yes. A phone photo of a signature came out at 658 × 329 px and JPG quality 76 under 10 KB. A tight crop helps because the ink then gets more of the pixels.
How small will my photo be at 10 KB?
The landscape sample became 541 × 406 px. Larger pictures are scaled down to fit, and a busier picture ends up smaller. The result panel shows the pixels before you download.
Why is my image under my form's minimum after compressing?
Because the minimum box was left empty, so the tool only kept the file under the maximum. Enter your form's range in the two size boxes, for example 20 as the maximum and 10 as the minimum. The tool then reaches the minimum, adding inert padding bytes if the picture alone is too small, and says how many.
Can I do this on a phone without uploading?
Yes. Pick the picture from the gallery in the phone's browser; the shrinking happens on the phone and only the finished JPG is saved.
Which limit is yours?
Ten kilobytes is the minimum in every notice listed above. If your form gives a range such as 10 to 20 KB, enter 20 as the maximum and 10 as the minimum in the tool at the top of this page.
